Oshkosh Truck Corporation (Oshkosh WI), a manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies, will acquire the Jerr-Dan Corporation, a manufacturer of towing and recovery equipment, from an affiliate of Littlejohn & Co for $80 million. Jerr-Dan (Greencastle, PA) had annual sales of $100 million in 2003.

Jerr-Dan will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Oshkosh Truck Corporation, and will be part of the corporation's fire and emergency business which includes Pierce fire apparatus. Jerr-Dan trucks are sold through a dealer distribution network.

CONGRESSIONAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR WILDFIRE AND LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS: HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE APPROVES NEW FUNDING LEVELS

The US House of Representatives version of the annual Appropriations Bill proposes spending $2.6 billion on wildfire fighting in 2005, up 10 percent. The bill has a $500 million contingency fund for the next two years to cover possible extreme wildfire conditions in the US West. Funding for local firefighters under the House bill would decline.

As NEEDA Newsletter points out each year, the Congressional Appropriations process is complicated with House and Senate both needing to approve identical amounts through a conference report and eventually submitting these amounts for the approval of the President who may veto the entire bill.

But the first draft by the powerful House Appropriations Committee gives an idea where the majority in the House want to go.
