Rural/Metro Corp. (Scottsdale AZ) has entered into a new five-year agreement to provide aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) services to Bolivia's three largest regional airports.

Rural/Metro firefighters have provided fire protection services since 1997 to the airports under its initial five-year agreement with Servicios de Aeropuertos Bolivianos S.A. (SABSA), the private Bolivian airport authority. SABSA is a subsidiary of Airport Group International, based in Glendale, Calif.

The new contract began Dec. 1, 2001 and is valued at approximately $5.6 million over its term. The airports include Jorge Wilsterman Airport in Cochabamba, John F. Kennedy International Airport in La Paz, and Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz.

Jack Brucker, president and chief executive officer, said, "We are very pleased to continue providing excellent fire prevention and suppression services to the three primary airports in Bolivia. Our capabilities are widely recognized and respected in the region, and we take great pride in offering high-quality fire protection to our customers."

Tom Bonfiglio, Rural/Metro's regional president for Latin America, added that the new contract expands the Company's role in the communities surrounding the airports by providing subscription fire protection services in a joint endeavor with the airport authority. "The project utilizes existing ARFF resources and reserve firefighters with no additional fixed costs for responses outside of the airport grounds, while at the same time maintaining International Civil Aviation Organization category standards," he explained.

Rural/Metro Corp. provides mobile health services, including 911 and non-emergency ambulance transportation, fire protection and other safety-related services to municipal, residential, commercial and industrial customers in more than 400 communities in the United States and Latin America.

As reported in NEEDA NEWSLETTER, Rural Metro's financial report was hurt by its withdrawal from Argentina due to the recession in that country. For more stories about Rural/Metro, use the "Search" application at the top right corner of the NEEDA NEWSLETTER
